The Danger of Internet

I like completeness. I can’t watch a film if I’ve missed the first few minutes and must watch it to the end even if it totally sucks. I read the user’s manual cover to cover for everything I buy, not just stuff like keitai or computers but also kitchen appliances and basically anything that has instructions. If I can’t finish reading everything, I feel this sense of failure like I might be missing some important key piece of information. Which is why the internet is the worst thing for me.

I have a set of websites that I visit on a regular basis. This is safe territory for me since I know most of the content there already. And I can just view the updates. But if I begin to stray, clicking one link after another, finding another interesting site after another, that sense of “something I might be missing and maybe I will find it in this site” grows until I just have to force myself to logout. I get withdrawal symptoms immediately. I think I would be satisfied if I could read everything on the internet.

A while back I installed an RSS Reader thinking that would be a better way to limit my activity and have all the content coming to me. Boy was that a bad idea. At this moment I have 1652 unread items lined up for me to review. Do I clear that out now or go to sleep?

Tonight, I planned to do some studying and go to sleep early around 9:30pm (I was totally exhausted today for some reason) but it only took one click for me to find an interesting blog which I read entirely and now here I am.
